MICRO FOCUS INCREASES POWER OF CORE APPLICATION ANALYSIS AND UNDERSTANDING WITH REVOLVE ENTERPRISE EDITION 7.0
-Accelerates delivery of new core functionality, enables modernization of key existing applications, supports SOA in strategic upgrades-
ROCKVILLE , Md., and NEWBURY, England., Oct. 24, 2006 - Micro Focus® (LSE: MCRO.L), a leading provider of core system application development and deployment solutions, today announces general availability of Revolve® Enterprise Edition 7.0, the latest generation of core application understanding and analysis technology. This latest update to the Revolve product line provides organizations that have large investments in COBOL-based application infrastructures with a cost-efficient, strategic maintenance and modernization solution for their existing, proven critical systems.
Revolve accelerates delivery time for new core system functionality by 65 percent. It supports Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and compliance initiatives by enabling companies to identify and expose business processes buried deep inside systems that may have been initially developed decades earlier.
Application maintenance can consume up to 80 percent of an organization's IT spending, according to recent industry analyst reports. Micro Focus Revolve Enterprise Edition provides a pathway to shorten analysis cycles while it improves analysis quality. It saves substantial time and money not only during analysis but during any application development and modernization initiatives that might result.
Shawn Klingensmith, vice president of development support at Mellon Financial Corporation, noted, "We have used Revolve Enterprise Edition on a number of inventory-wide analysis and change projects. It is helping us estimate more accurately and we get projects completed significantly faster. We have reduced the time taken for certain inventory-wide analysis tasks by more than 80 percent."
"Organizations are now seeking ways to extract more value than ever from their existing systems," said Stuart McGill, vice president of worldwide marketing at Micro Focus. "To do so, they need the latest technology-based solutions to help them reuse core assets at reasonable cost, but without adding layers of undue risk to the application development process."
Key Benefits of Revolve Enterprise Edition
This latest edition of Revolve makes the technology more intuitive so that new users become productive faster. For existing Revolve users, the information they use most often is readily available. In addition, this release further enhances the tool's support of application documentation requirements.
Many Micro Focus direct corporate end users depend upon large inventories of existing code to run the business. "We chose Micro Focus Revolve because it is easy to use, yet a very powerful analysis tool for COBOL developers," said Jeff Bradshaw, assistant vice president of application development at Pacific Life. "As we continue to implement complex enhancements in our applications, tools like Revolve will help improve our estimation accuracy, software design, development time and software quality, while reducing overall IT costs spent on critical projects."
Micro Focus Revolve Enterprise Edition gives corporate customers an enhanced ability to:
Revolve Enterprise Edition is available to customers directly from Micro Focus as well as from a wide range of Micro Focus partners who utilize Revolve to accurately estimate the time and effort required for consulting and outsourcing projects. Revolve boosts initial bid process accuracy for most core system projects, providing a factual basis for avoiding the pitfalls of project overruns or even failure. Assessments caried out in this way can be continually refined as automated, repeatable processes for ongoing system maintenance.

One Micro Focus partner finds Revolve a lifesaver. "Our clients in Scandinavia tend to have very large amounts of source code in their core systems," said Par Parling, managing director of tp tech Scandinavia. "With the amount of changes needed for those systems each year - from business initiatives through to compliance changes - there is always the need to accurately estimate and plan this work. We always recommend Micro Focus Revolve technology for this task, because it saves our clients hundreds of hours each year, and gives them the most accurate assessment results each time. These days, we suggest clients don't plan major code changes without it."
