When will I receive the Serial No and Work Order No. for the Net Express Personal Edition product I downloaded/received?

 You do not require a Serial No. or Work Order No. for Net Express Personal Edition. Leave the fields blank and continue with the installation steps, and the product will install and function correctly!

What is the difference between a regular Net Express product and the Personal Edition?

 The Net Express Personal Edition product’s compiler is limited to compile only 2200 lines of code per program. Also, abiding by the EULA, you may use the Net Express Personal Edition product only for the purposes of personal use such as self learning or practising. The Net Express Personal Edition product should not be used for any commercial or teaching/training purposes.

Can I use Net Express for teaching/training purposes?

 Yes, you may use Net Express for teaching or training purposes. Micro Focus provides Net Express Academic Edition for this purpose. If you are a recognised teaching/training institute, you may apply for our ACTION Partner program. You can find further information about the program and how to apply in the ACTION Partner pages.

Where can I obtain the Net Express Personal Edition product?

 You can obtain the Net Express Personal Edition product through our online shop site. The Net Express Personal Edition may be downloaded for free, or ordered as a shipment along with Microsoft’s Visual Studio .net Standard Edition for a charge of $49 + shipping.

Where can I obtain Net Express Academic Edition product?

 The Net Express Academic Edition product can be obtained by you only if you are a recognised teaching/training organisation. You can obtain the product by applying for our ACTION Partner program, the details of which can be found at the ACTION Partner pages.

What is the difference between Net Express Academic Edition and Net Express Personal Edition products?

 The Net Express Personal Edition product’s compiler is restricted to compile only 2200 lines of code per program, meanwhile the Academic Edition product’s compiler does not come with any such restriction.

 Also, The Personal Edition product should not be used for training/teaching purposes, while Academic Edition product can be used for teaching/training purposes.

 Both products should not be used for any commercial purposes.

How can I obtain more licenses for the Net Express Academic Edition product?

 We request our ACTION Partners to be careful with managing their licenses. Although in the instance where you expand your facilities or capacity and you need additional licenses to enable this expansion, Micro Focus will provide you with additional licenses. Please contact Micro Focus at academic@microfocus.com with the details of your request. We will require you to provide us with a report of the license usage so far, please refer to your licensing guideline provided with the ACTION Partner bundle for information on how this report can be generated.

What are the limitations of the Net Express Personal Edition Product?

 The only technical limitation of the Net Express Personal Edition Product is that the compiler can not compile more than 2200 lines of code per program.

 The Net Express Personal Edition Product’s End User License Agreement (EULA) also prohibits you from using the product for any commercial or teaching purposes. You may use the product only for your personal use e.g. self learning or practice or homework assignments etc.

When I download Personal Edition, it says Visual Studio is not required. But during installation, the installer says Visual Studio is required, Why?

 When you install the product, at Step 4 “Custom Setup” dialog, remove the Net Express support for .net component to be installed. To do this, click on the little icon next to the item, and select “This feature will not be available” option from the pop up menu. Now continue installing the product, and the product should install and run correctly.

We use Micro Focus products other than Net Express and Mainframe Express to teach our students. Can we obtain these products for free too under the ACTION Program agreement?

 If you are using any other products of ours, please contact us at academic@microfocus.com with details of what course you are teaching, and what are the learning outcomes and what products you are using. This should help us create a case for making those products generally available free of charge under the Academic licenses, and in the meantime, we will provide you with free of charge licenses to deliver your taught modules/courses for that product, along with our other academic products.
