"Best of Both Worlds"
Two exciting products that Acucorp users were keeping to themselves are soon to be available to Micro Focus Server Express and Net Express users as part of our “Best of Both” promise. We are making the most popular Acu add-on modules available on the Micro Focus technology stack.

Announcing the Technology Preview Program for two exciting COBOL add-on products

Early Access
Acu4GL and AcuXDBC have been shown to be winners with Acucorp users. This summer we will be offering Micro Focus users early access to these products as part of the Technology Preview Program. We will provide you with the pre-release products so that you get an early view of how they can help your business. All we want in return is your feedback so that we can make sure that our products are the best in the market.

Micro Focus XDBC adapts AcuXDBC for the Micro Focus user. Micro Focus XDBC allows you to access indexed files from ODBC- or JDBC compliant applications, using SQL. It provides a tool that can be used to access and transform data stored in Micro Focus indexed files. We have enabled it to work with the OPENESQL toolset included in Net Express and Server Express. And it will be available on the latest Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris operating environments.

With Micro Focus XDBC
Access your data from the most popular Windows® applications. Manage your data like a relational database. XDBC gives your end users the power to use Microsoft Excel® to create charts from your COBOL data, Word’s mail merge to generate form letters from customer data, or Crystal Reports® to issue a financial report. XDBC also allows you to create a system catalog and base tables, giving you the flexibility to query and manage your corporate data in a relational database-like manner.

Micro Focus Database Extensions adapt Acu4GL for the Micro Focus user. Micro Focus Database Extensions allow you to access databases with standard COBOL I/O statements. Additional functionality is added to the checker to parse FDs and create data dictionaries, which are used by the runtime-system in the mapping of COBOL records to database rows, and COBOL data types to database types.

This patented interface technology designed to bridge the worlds of third-generation COBOL and fourth-generation Structured Query Language (SQL). There are three Micro Focus Micro Focus Database Extension interfaces in all:

  • Micro Focus Database Extension for Oracle
  • Micro Focus Database Extension for Microsoft SQL Server
  • Micro Focus Database Extension for DB2

With the Micro Focus Database Extension interfaces, you can benefit from relational database technology without learning structured query language (SQL), rewriting your application, or spending time and money retraining.

The Micro Focus Database Extensions provide automatic translation of COBOL I/O statements into SQL or ODBC instructions that the database understands.

Want the power and flexibility of a relational database management system (RDBMS) such as Oracle®, Microsoft® SQL Server, or DB2®, but you don’t want to abandon your investment in COBOL? Micro Focus has the solution for you—a seamless COBOL-to-RDBMS bridge known as MICRO FOCUS Database Extensions. Wherever your data, in whatever form it resides, rest assured you can access it from Micro Focus COBOL.
