VME Migration

Together with key partners, Micro Focus enables our customers to dramatically lower hardware and software costs by re-hosting applications from VME to modern, open and extensible platforms like Windows, UNIX and Linux.

Re-hosting results in applications that are lower cost, more open, easier to maintain, faster to adapt, fully extensible to the Internet, SQL, XML and Web Services, and hence can be fully exploited through continued re-use.

ICL VME and Micro Focus

The ICL VME environment has proven to be a robust environment for running mission critical applications for decades - but it has been over two years since Fujitsu Services announced the complete withdrawal of support for all models of the ICL Series 39 DX range and support for SV294 and OpenVME for these machines.

IT executives with mission critical workload still running on VME are now facing ever increasing risks and costs associated with every application that is still deployed on these environments. As available ICL VME tools and resources (people, hardware, software and support) begin to dwindle, these risks and costs will become more and more acute.

Aside from compelling events like support withdrawal, other advances in the industry are making it not only viable but very compelling to re-host mainframe applications to the Windows, UNIX or Linux platforms.

Micro Focus facilitates fast, low-risk and cost-effective application migrations utilizing a combination of technology, expertise and services developed by Micro Focus and our Migration and Transformation Consortium (MTC) partners.

Micro Focus has developed a strategic partner program with leading service providers and migration specialists who have an established track record of successes migrating from ICL VME to open platforms. Together we specialize in unlocking the value within core systems with partners who have collectively completed over twenty migrations from VME to Micro Focus COBOL on Window, Unix or Linux.

This partner-centric strategy allows us to focus on providing the leading software platform to deploy migrated applications, while our partners provide a variety of approaches to migrating applications and data from VME to contemporary 3GL languages and databases.
