—Sofia Research & Development operation grows by over 150 per cent in 18 months—

LONDON, England, May 14, 2008 – Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), the leading provider of enterprise application management and modernization solutions, today hailed the expansion of its Centre of Excellence in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Since launching in November 2006 the Development Centre’s workforce has grown from 20 to 52, with a further 20 employees expected to arrive before the end of this year. The success of the Sofia operation means that it now handles research and application development across a range of Micro Focus products including Enterprise View, Data Express and Net Express.

Gary Crook, WW Vice President, Product Development, commented: “The rapid expansion we have experienced over the past 18 months is a testament to the success of the development centre since it became part of Micro Focus. Our team here is very much an international one, but growth like this highlights Sofia as an excellent location from which to do business.”

Micro Focus is one of a number of high-profile firms within the IT sector to have set up offices in Bulgaria. In addition to government incentives aimed to attract foreign investment and the relatively low cost of business operations, many organisations have been encouraged by the high standards of education within the country, particularly in IT.

Crook continued: “Bulgaria has a strong technology skills base and Sofia alone is home to five universities now teaching IT courses. We already have a partnership with Sofia University whereby we provide learning resources, and also run an internship programme for students. As we anticipate our operations in Sofia to continue to expand over the coming years, relationships with academic institutions will become increasingly important in the recruitment of the highest calibre of new employees.”
