Micro Focus Sees Significant Momentum in Applications Testing and Management Business 1 Year after Borland and Compuware Acquisitions

Major new customers and products embrace benefits of Continuous Quality Assurance

NEWBURY, England, 17 August 2010 — Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), the leading provider of enterprise application modernization, testing and management solutions, today announced significant momentum in its applications management and quality business following the successful integration of Borland Software Corporation and the Testing / Automated Software Quality business of Compuware Corporation, both of which were acquired just over one year ago.

After integrating the acquired businesses into a consolidated, customer-centered set of solutions, additional landmarks for Micro Focus’ management and quality business since July 2009 (when Borland, the second acquisition, was completed) include:

  • Market differentiation: Micro Focus now addresses a combined market opportunity of $6.4 billion as a result of the new markets opened up by the acquisitions and is the only company to offer a market-leading Continuous Quality Assurance  (CQA) approach, delivering solutions ‘front-to-back’ across the entire software development cycle from requirements definition to ‘go live’.

  • Major new customers globally: Major companies around the world have joined Micro Focus and are now using its management and quality solutions, including: Adobe Systems, Maximus  BC Health and Lockheed Martin in North America; AstraZeneca and Allianz Life Insurance in Brazil; DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), Fujitsu Services,  QinetiQMet Office, Cegedim RX and Ariel Communications in the UK; Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH in Germany; and Abacus Travel Systems in Singapore.

  • Significant new products:Silk4Net and DevPartner Studio, new generation testing tools with tight integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010; SilkPerformer Diagnostics powered by dynaTrace, a new product resulting from a partnership with dynaTrace software that provides rapid diagnosis of performance problems; and SilkPerformer CloudBurst, a unique load testing from the cloud offering that allows customers to easily and economically perform peak demand load tests.

  • Continued leadership and ongoing enhancements to its CQA portfolio:  Additional enhancements and new customers added to Micro Focus’ Caliber family of products, providing powerful management of business requirements in the development process; StarTeam, one of the most cost-effective software change and configuration management solutions; and VisiBroker, Micro Focus’ CORBA® environment for developing, deploying and managing distributed applications. And over the coming months, Micro Focus will launch additional technology in its 2010 management and quality product portfolio to help customers achieve the promise of Continuous Quality Assurance.

“Micro Focus has built a highly differentiated offering over the last year, developing a suite of Continuous Quality Assurance products that complement our existing modernization and migration propositions perfectly,” said Rich Novak, president and general manager of the Micro Focus Application Management and Quality Division. “This combined offering has been welcomed by our customers, with many now asking to work with us across multiple areas of their IT landscape including strategic new applications development.”

Customer Highlights

As part of a focus on Continuous Quality Assurance, Adobe is working with Micro Focus, leveraging Micro Focus Silk testing solutions to improve and automate the functional testing process.

“Maximizing testing efficiency is critical to delivering high-quality products on schedule. We are working with Micro Focus to further automate our processes to drive quality and agility in software development,” commented Todd Heckel, Senior Quality Leader, Adobe Systems.

Abacus International Pte Ltd, Asia’s leading provider of solutions and services for the travel industry, wanted to further improve the testing methodology of its software development in order to reduce the time to market for its products. Fully aware that manual testing in today’s fast-paced and competitive business environment will be unable to meets its demands, Abacus identified automated testing as the answer to testing and delivering quality travel solutions to its customers within shorter turnaround time. Since deploying Micro Focus test automation solutions to automate its testing process earlier this year, Abacus has been able to reduce costs and improve the time-to-market of new products.

Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, has deployed Micro Focus Caliber and StarTeam for software requirements management, change and configuration management.  And Cegedim Rx, a supplier of software solutions and computer services to the UK pharmacy market, is using Micro Focus solutions to support its end-to-end software delivery lifecycle.
