Dotnet
- Technical integration between the Microsoft and Micro Focus products will let COBOL developers gain the benefits of Microsoft's dotnet, which includes performance benefits; a single set of APIs for Windows, Web, and mobile applications; as well as the ability to publish components as Web services.
- Micro Focus COBOL will compile to Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) and execute under the Microsoft Common Language Runtime (CLR) as 'Managed Code'. This will allow applications to run fully within the dotnet.
- The dotnet provides complete interoperability between managed code and unmanaged COM components. Because of this support, Micro Focus Net Express provides a high level of interoperability with the dotnet, especially in the areas that are most important to COBOL programmers.
- Micro Focus has proven that large-scale mainframe COBOL applications can be migrated rapidly and cost-effectively to Microsoft dotnet.
- Micro Focus Net Express has the capability to take COBOL business logic and ready it for the dotnet quickly and seamlessly
- Micro Focus' environment for developing Cobol applications for Windows, Linux and Unix platforms, will now also have extensions for Microsoft dotnet
- Net Express enables migration of Cobol applications to Microsoft Windows and dotnet. Applications can be moved without losing scalability and performance.
- Micro Focus customers, such as leading enterprise application vendor SYSPRO, is already taking full advantage of existing business-critical logic and legacy assets and deploying them on the Microsoft .NET Framework.
- Microsoft and retail banking software provider Alnova Technologies has shown that a large-scale mainframe COBOL application suite can be migrated to a dotnet to create a universal banking system.
- Micro Focus will bundle the Visual Studio .Net product with our development environment, so our customers will be able to use Cobol as a first-class citizen in the context of the .NET.
