Technical integration between the Microsoft and Micro Focus products will let COBOL developers gain the benefits of Microsoft's dotnet, which includes performance benefits; a single set of APIs for Windows, Web, and mobile applications; as well as the ability to publish components as Web services.
Micro Focus COBOL will compile to Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) and execute under the Microsoft Common Language Runtime (CLR) as 'Managed Code'. This will allow applications to run fully within the dotnet.
The dotnet provides complete interoperability between managed code and unmanaged COM components. Because of this support, Micro Focus Net Express provides a high level of interoperability with the dotnet, especially in the areas that are most important to COBOL programmers.
