What's New In Revolve® Enterprise Edition 7.0?

Revolve Enterprise Edition 7.0 includes a wide range of new and enhanced features focused on productivity and documentation.

Mainframe Compatibility

Mainframe compatibility has been updated and enhanced across several areas:

  • Enterprise COBOL for z/OS
  • DB2
  • IMS
  • CICS
  • Assembler
  • JCL
  • Scheduling systems – CA-7 & Tivoli Workload Scheduler

Usability Improvement

A major focus of this release has been to make the technology more intuitive so that new users are productive faster, and existing users have the information they use most often readily available.

  • A startup wizard has been introduced that will guide a new user through the steps of creating a project, defining the directories that house the source, and describing any special circumstances that exist in the application so parsing can be made as accurate as possible.
  • Existing projects are shown, allowing the user to select from a menu which project they will work with, taking the guesswork out of starting analysis tasks for new users.
  • All high-level application interface points are now included in the project manager – which is automatically displayed when a project is opened.   This helps the analyst to quickly find their starting point – whether it is a program, copybook, job or other source artefact – or a file, table, transaction id or similar non-source point of interest.
  • The analysis tools palette has been improved to allow grouping of tools into folders that simplify the finding the right tool, and allow users to create logical groupings of tools based on their specific requirements.
  • The Effort Estimation process has been simplified to post worksheet results direct to Microsoft Excel.
  • New “Advanced Text Search” - Advanced text search allows you to specify the exact text, or text pattern; you want to search for, in files and directories which you also specify. You can refine this by specifying text, files and directories to be ignored in your search.

Documentation Improvements

The second major focus of this release is to improve the capability of the tool to support application documentation requirements.    Several improvements have been made:

  • All graphical views have been redesigned and can now be saved to a variety of file formats, and/or cut and pasted to other documents.
  • An interactive Analysis Diagram now allows the user to graphically explore the application, isolating the objects that are most relevant to their analysis and displaying the relationships between these elements.   This diagram is persistent between analysis sessions, exportable as documentation and proves an excellent vehicle to get application developments working from the same page.
  • The worksheet now provides the ability to cut and paste directly to Microsoft Excel.

Development tool integration

New tools have been created that simplify integration between Revolve Enterprise Edition analysis and Micro Focus application development products including Mainframe Express or Net Express:

  • A new tool, “Find related source files” has been added.   This tool supports the identification of all source files related to your analysis and includes option to create a corresponding MFE project.
  • A new tool, “Worksheet create IDE Bookmarks” has been added.   This tool enables the analysis points found in your Revolve Enterprise Edition session to be highlighted directly in the edit / debug tools within Micro Focus Mainframe Express Enterprise Edition or Net Express.

Administration and Implementation

A number of key enhancements have been made to improve the manageability and ease of administration of Revolve Enterprise EditioAutomated synchronization with mainframe source components
