Novell SecureLogin Adds Support for Windows Vista

Feature-rich single sign-on solution offers advances to enforce consistent password policy and address compliance mandates

12 November 2007

Novell today announced enhancements to its single sign-on solution, including support for Windows Vista*, improved authentication capabilities, easier administration and expanded applications support. An integral part of Novell's portfolio of identity and security management solutions, Novell® SecureLogin is the industry's most scalable and comprehensive enterprise single sign-on solution, featuring advanced security capabilities to help customers meet compliance mandates for multi-factor authentication, automate and simplify password management and lower IT administration costs.

"Enterprise single sign-on is a robust and mature industry," said Sally Hudson, research director at IDC. "Vendors that can provide multiple features, easy integration with a variety of applications, support the most popular operating systems and address strong authentication methods, clearly have an advantage."

The industry's most feature-rich enterprise single sign-on solution, Novell SecureLogin provides users with easy access to network and Web resources, using a single, secure login. It is easy to install as it works with existing directories and can be deployed in less than 10 minutes. When deployed with Novell Identity Manager, Novell Access Manager and Novell Sentinel, Novell SecureLogin gives enterprise customers a complete, integrated identity and security management stack for supporting IT compliance, risk management and governance requirements.

"Providing a single sign-on solution strengthens our HIPAA compliance because we can track how and when users are accessing our clinical systems," said Patricia Duty, desktop manager at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. "With Novell SecureLogin, users can also access applications easily and securely while working from home."

Enhanced features in Novell SecureLogin include:

  • Support for Windows Vista – Novell SecureLogin now support Windows Vista, as well as other popular operating systems and Web browsers, including Windows* XP, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox*.
  • Strong authentication features – To help organizations comply with new regulations, such as Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) guidelines for online banking that require more than one factor of authentication, SecureLogin enables integration with smart cards, biometrics and proximity cards in conjunction with user names and passwords.
  • Centralized administration – An updated interface simplifies installation and administration and provides integration with Novell identity and security management solutions to allow IT staff to centrally manage credentials, policies and single sign-on activities on Microsoft* Active Directory*, Novell eDirectoryTM or a generic LDAP directory.
  • Streamlined access to enterprise applications – Immediate support for enterprise applications, including SAP*, Front.exe, Microsoft SQL Server, Citrix* Program Neighborhood, Lotus Notes* and Novell GroupWise®. Novell SecureLogin also supports more than 30 terminal-based applications, as well as Java-based applications and complex Web applications.

"Novell continues to advance our leading identity and security management solutions to meet the needs of the marketplace," said Jim Ebzery, senior vice president of Identity and Security Management at Novell. "This new version of Novell SecureLogin not only provides support for Windows Vista and advanced authentication to improve enterprise security, it enforces consistent password policies to minimize the risk of data breaches and simplifies compliance with industry regulations and standards."
