SUSE Linux Enterprise Storage Infrastructure from Novell Available for SAP NetWeaver and mySAP Business Suite

High-availability storage infrastructure in SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 is first open source high-availability solution available for SAP NetWeaver and mySAP Business Suite

15 March 2007

Novell today announced that the high-availability storage infrastructure in SUSE® Linux Enterprise 10 from Novell® is now available for SAP* NetWeaver* and mySAP* Business Suite. The high-availability storage infrastructure in SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 is the first open source high-availability solution which has been developed jointly by Novell and the SAP LinuxLab. The storage infrastructure protects data and keeps enterprises running, thus considerably lowering costs and simplifying data storage management.

"SAP software is used to handle mission-critical tasks, and the foundation for those applications needs to be rock solid," said Holger Dyroff, vice president of SUSE Linux Enterprise product management for Novell. "The high-availability infrastructure in SUSE Linux Enterprise meets that need and is an important feature for keeping customer costs low. SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 is the only enterprise open source platform that includes a complete high-availability solution without carrying an additional price tag."

The SUSE Linux Enterprise high-availability storage infrastructure features clustering software that monitors the status of various parts of an enterprise system, including SAP applications, and initiates fail-over to redundant servers if there are problems such as hardware failure. Integrated components of the storage infrastructure include the open source Oracle* Cluster File System 2, a parallel cluster file system that offers scalability, and Enterprise Volume Management System 2, a cluster-aware volume manager that simplifies operations in a high-availability, scalable environment. The high-availability storage infrastructure coordinates cluster-wide activities to ensure reliable administration of storage resources for shared-disk-based clusters.

Johannes Vieweg, technical SAP NetWeaver consultant at REALTECH AG, said, "Linux, as a well-established business platform for SAP applications, in combination with Heartbeat, Novell's high-availability solution, now also offers an integrated end-to-end solution that guarantees the secure operation of SAP systems. The excellent cost-benefit ratio is another advantage of this solution."
