Chapter 4: Installing Host Compatibility Option

This chapter describes how to install Host Compatibility Option.

4.1 Requirements

For Host Compatibility Option to work correctly you must have the following software installed on your PC:

Mainframe Express
One of the following database client/server products from IBM:
- DB2 Universal Database
- DB2 Connect

Please Note!
Starting with DB2 Universal Database V7.1 or later, you must also install the DB2 Application Development Client (formerly called DB2 SDK) or you will not be able to compile any DB2 program.

One of the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Microsoft Windows NT V4.0
- Microsoft Windows ME
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 95

We strongly recommend that you install one of the DB2 Universal Database V5.2 or later products since these products provide more DB2 compatibility and functionality than earlier versions.

If you want to use this software to create or test:

IMS DB/DC programs, you need the IMS Option for Mainframe Express
CICS programs, you need the CICS Option for Mainframe Express

You can only test DB2 batch programs using TSO Clists or via the IKJEFT01 program from JCL. See demo examples that come with HCO.

4.2 Running SETUP

The Setup program is the same graphical setup program that is used for all Mainframe Express software. You see a series of windows prompting you for specific information about where to install it.
