Users and Groups

Each AccuRev user must have an AccuRev username (also called a "principal-name"). AccuRev maintains its own user registry in the repository; it is separate from the registry maintained by your machine's operating system (or the network).

Optionally, you can create AccuRev user groups, and add users to the groups as "members". Groups can be nested within one another; that is, a group can be a member of another group. AccuRev groups are independent of operating system groups.

AccuRev groups are used by the Access Control List (ACL) and Element Access Control List (EACL) facilities to grant or deny access to a particular resource for an entire set of users. Groups are used by the Locks facility to specify a set of users to which a stream lock does or does not apply.

Usernames and Groupnames

Each AccuRev group has a user-defined name. Usernames and groupnames share a "namespace" in the AccuRev repository. This means that a user and a group cannot have the same name.

Custom User Properties

You can create custom user properties that appear in each user’s property dialog box (GUI only) for each user and can be configured to appear in AccuWork through the Schema Editor. To set the custom user properties:

1.	Create an XML file containing your specified properties.

2.	Use the command line and set the properties using the setproperty command. Refer to the Command Line help for more information.

3.	Set values for the custom properties in the Add User or Edit User dialog boxes. They can also be set from the command. Refer to the Command Line help for more information. Note that the custom user properties display in the Edit User and User Properties dialog boxes in the History view.

4.	Configure the schema to display custom user properties instead of the default user name. See The Schema Editor (Administrators Only).
