Create Launch Configurations

Create the required Launch Configurations for each of the EKS upgrade versions. These Launch Configurations use the previously-determined AMIs, which you noted. Do the following:

  1. Log into the AWS console and browse to the Launch configurations management page.

  2. Select your current Launch Configuration. 

  3. Click Actions > Copy launch configuration to create a copy of the selected configuration.

  4. Edit the copied configuration to include the new AMI for the EKS version you're upgrading to, which you determined in Create Launch Configurations.

    Before proceeding, verify that the storage size remains the same as in the old Launch Configuration, since the storage size changes with AMI changes
  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 to create a new Launch Configuration for the next EKS version, using the corresponding AMI which you previously determined.
