Properties of file type dialogue box
The Properties of file type or New File Type dialogue box appears when you click Properties or Add in the System Options Documents Types page dialogue box.
This dialogue enables you to configure the processing for all documents of the selected file type that you can see in the field Extension, for example, DOCX:
- Extension – usually three or four characters. Should uniquely identify the current file type.
For example, for *.docx files, you would type DOCX.
You do not need to enter any other characters.
This field is only available when adding a new file type to the list. - Description - the description of the current file type, for example MS Word Documents
This file type is suitable for:
- Creating electronic records – leave this option unchecked to prevent a file type from being checked into Content Manager
- Content indexing – select for Content Manager to index the content of documents of this type
- Creating a longevity rendition – select for Content Manager Render to process documents of this type for long-term storage rendering to PDF format
- Image Processing (OCR text extraction) - select for Content Manager to automatically extract text from images of this document type and use document content indexing on the text. See CM23.3_IDOL_DCI_Install_Config.pdf for detail on setting up Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
- Compressing when adding to a Document Store – select for Content Manager to compress documents of this type the Content Manager document store
NOTE: By default, Content Manager does not compress already compressed files of the following types: zip, zipx, tar, gz, tgz, jar, jpg, jpeg, docx, xlsx, and pptx.
This tab enables you to configure Content Manager to process additional renditions when adding or modifying documents of the selected file type.
