Creating redactions from electronic documents
- Search for the record whose attached electronic document you want to make a redaction of - .tiff or .tif format only
- Right-click the record and on the New menu, click New Redaction.
Content Manager creates a copy of the electronic document and presents it in the Create New Redaction viewer window.
The Redaction Editor Window has a ribbon with the following commands:
HOME tab
- File Group - Save as Draft, Save as PDF, Print & Close
- Tools Group - Select, Drag, Box, Marker & Oval
- Search Group - Find & Find Next
- Page Group - Go to Page
VIEW tab
- Zoom group - In, Out & Reset
- Rotate Group - Left, Right & Around
- Set the selection you want to hide and click either Save as Draft or Save as PDF to save the redaction.
This will save the redaction as a new record that is linked to the original electronic document.
This depends on the system option Save a transparent form of the redaction as a rendition of the original record.
See System Options Record page.
NOTE: It is advisable to use the black and white redaction tool colours only. If you use several colours on the redaction, the resulting electronic document could potentially become very large. Content Manager will inform you with the Redact Pages window that the number of colours will increase the size of the file. You can then decide how to save the new record in Content Manager:
- Increase the number of colours in the image
-- or -- - Use the nearest available colours from the image
- Increase the number of colours in the image
You can only modify or remove a redacted area from an electronic document before saving the document.
- To modify or remove a Redaction from an electronic document, use the Annotation/Redaction Selection tool to select it
- Select the redacted area and make your change (delete, resize or move the redacted area).
- To save your changes to the image, on the Home menu, click Save as Draft or Save as PDF.
- Save as Draft - Content Manager will save the redaction as a *.TIF using the same record type as the original record.
- Save as PDF - Content Manager prompts you to confirm saving the redaction as a PDF.
- After selecting the Yes button on the prompt when selecting the Save as PDF, the *.TIF will be converted to a PDF.
Saving a draft redaction is useful for large documents that require iterative redactions.
