Finding Space management level items and contiguous space
You can search for Content Manager Spaces using practically any of the information about them that is saved in Content Manager.
This is the pane in the main Content Manager window under the toolbars.
Use the fields:
- Search For - select Spaces
- Search By - use KwikSelect to select a search method, or all in the drop-down box
- Matching criteria - enter the data to find
- Run the search button - click to start the search

- On the Manage ribbon, click Spaces.
- Right-click the list and on the Search menu, click Refine Search.
The Search for Spaces dialogue box appears. - Use the Boolean search editor, or, to use the options below, switch to the multi-field editor:
- Top level Spaces - to search within the top levels
- Within Space - enter the top level you want to search within or use KwikSelect to select from the list of available levels.
- Lowest level Spaces - to search within the lowest levels
- Within Space - enter the lowest level you want to search within or use KwikSelect to select from the list of available levels.
- Holding Bays - to search within the Holding Bays
- Within Space - enter the Holding Bay you want to search within or use KwikSelect to select from the list of available levels.
- Search Key - to to search for Spaces by search key:
- Key Value - enter the value for the search key.
The Content Manager administrator set up the search key when setting up the space level.
NOTE: Space level search keys never start with a number.
- Key Value - enter the value for the search key.
- Barcode - to search for Spaces by a specific barcode number
- Barcode Value - enter or scan the barcode number to search for
- By Space Number Prefix - to search for Spaces by a specific prefix to their number
- Prefix Value - enter the prefix characters to search for.
- Top level Spaces - to search within the top levels
- Click OK.
Content Manager returns the Space management levels that match your criteria.

The search string editor enables you to use the full capabilities of Content Manager searching, combining potentially large numbers of criteria, and using advanced filter and sort options. See Using the string-based search editor.
Searching for contiguous space enables you to find enough storage in one single block in a space system to store a certain number of records.
- On the Manage- Spaces dialogue box, right-click a top level and click Find Contiguous.
The Find a block of contiguous space for a certain number of Records dialogue box appears.
- Number of Records to fit - type the number of records that you want to store
- Search Within Space - by default the space you right-clicked.
Select a different space top level if you want to.
- Click OK.
When Content Manager finds enough space for the number of records, it prompts you with the message:
A suitable set of contiguous Spaces was found. Would you like to select this group of Spaces?
- Click Yes to select the group of spaces.
Content Manager will display them in a Spaces - number dialogue box for you to view and take the details of.
When you click No here, Content Manager will return to the Spaces - top dialogue box.
You can now use the space details to move your records to this exact location in the space management system.
