Viewing, editing or deleting a relationship

  1. Right-click the item and select Properties - Related Records page
  2. Right-click the related record and select from the commands:
    • Properties - displays the two related record titles and their relationship.
    • New Related Record - click this option to display the Add Related Record dialogue. See the details described on the Relating records page, on using the Add one or more related records to selected records dialogue.
    • Delete Related Record - removes the relationship between the two records.

To change a relationship, you need to delete it first and then create the relationship you want.

    • Navigate to Record - displays the related record in a search window
    • Properties - displays the two related record titles and their relationship
  3. Click OK.

NOTE: You are not permitted to remove the First Part of record part relationship from a first part record's properties as all part relationships depend on the root part, which is always the first part created.

You can remove the Later Part of from records that are not first parts.

NOTE:

  • Series relationships - a series record with an in series record related to it does not list these records in the Related Records field in the view pane or record Properties dialogue.

The Related Records field shows the basic relationship types.

This is because in Content Manager relationships are cached in memory.

To cache the entire contents of a series would be detrimental to the performance of the system as some organizations create millions of records and relate them as series records.

As the record view pane field Related Records does not display series records, you need to display both the Series Record and Related Records fields in the view pane.

Any other relationship types need to be explicitly added to the view pane.

  • The view pane field Related Records displays the related records and their relationship to the current record.

You can also view all redactions, versions, copy/original or series relationships in the record Properties - Related Records page, however the view pane field Related Records excludes the following record relationships:

    - Redaction of

    - Was Redacted to

    - Alternatively within

    - Alternatively contains

    - Latest Version of

    - Latest Part of

  • When only one relationship is allowed - for example, Latest Volume Of - by default, the Add button is unavailable until you type a record number into the field With Record.

As soon as you have selected one record, the only commands available to you are Remove, OK and Cancel.

You can change Relationship Type once you have selected a list of record numbers; however, Content Manager prevents you from adding them.
