Viewing, editing or deleting a relationship
- Right-click the item and select Properties - Related Records page
- Right-click the related record and select from the commands:
- Properties - displays the two related record titles and their relationship.
- New Related Record - click this option to display the Add Related Record dialogue. See the details described on the Relating records page, on using the Add one or more related records to selected records dialogue.
- Delete Related Record - removes the relationship between the two records.
To change a relationship, you need to delete it first and then create the relationship you want.
- Navigate to Record - displays the related record in a search window
- Properties - displays the two related record titles and their relationship
- Click OK.
Using this option, you can remove a single or multiple relationships from a single or multiple records.
- Search for and select the record(s) you want to remove the relationship(s) from.
- Right-click, point to Details and then click Remove Relationships.
The Remove one or more relationships from selected records dialogue box appears.
If multiple records are selected, the Apply to tagged records dialogue will be displayed first, select the required option and click OK. -
From the drop-down list, select the type of Relationship to be removed.
- Click Add Related Records (
). The Select from Records dialogue box is displayed. - Search for and select the record(s) to be removed from the record relationship and then click OK.
Depending on the type of relationship selected, you maybe able to select multiple records at this stage. - If different Relationship Types are to be removed, repeat Steps 4 and 5 until all relationships are added.
- Click OK, record relationships matching the listed relationships will be removed from the selected record(s).
Using this option, you can remove a single or multiple relationships from a single record.
- Search for and select the record you want to remove the relationship(s) from.
- Right-click the record, point to Details and then click Browse Relationships.
The Maintain Related Records dialogue box appears.

In the Related Records list, select the relationship(s )to be removed from the record, right-click and click Remove.
If a single term is selected, it will be removed immediately. If multiple terms are tagged, the remove tagged dialogues will appear, follow the prompts to remove the terms.
- The Maintain Related Records dialogue is displayed, listing the remaining relationships (if any). Click OK.
NOTE: You are not permitted to remove the First Part of record part relationship from a first part record's properties as all part relationships depend on the root part, which is always the first part created.
You can remove the Later Part of from records that are not first parts.
- Remove the volume using the record right-click shortcut menu Properties - Related Records page
- Add it - if required - using the record right-click command Relate

Use the record right-click command New Volume to create a new record volume
NOTE:
- Series relationships - a series record with an in series record related to it does not list these records in the Related Records field in the view pane or record Properties dialogue.
The Related Records field shows the basic relationship types.
This is because in Content Manager relationships are cached in memory.
To cache the entire contents of a series would be detrimental to the performance of the system as some organizations create millions of records and relate them as series records.
As the record view pane field Related Records does not display series records, you need to display both the Series Record and Related Records fields in the view pane.
Any other relationship types need to be explicitly added to the view pane.
- The view pane field Related Records displays the related records and their relationship to the current record.
You can also view all redactions, versions, copy/original or series relationships in the record Properties - Related Records page, however the view pane field Related Records excludes the following record relationships:
- Redaction of
- Was Redacted to
- Alternatively within
- Alternatively contains
- Latest Version of
- Latest Part of
- When only one relationship is allowed - for example, Latest Volume Of - by default, the Add button is unavailable until you type a record number into the field With Record.
As soon as you have selected one record, the only commands available to you are Remove, OK and Cancel.
You can change Relationship Type once you have selected a list of record numbers; however, Content Manager prevents you from adding them.
