Applying security levels, caveats and Access Controls to records
- Search for the record(s) whose Access Controls you want to modify
- Right-click the record and on the Security and Audit menu, click Security/Access.
The Security and Access Policy dialogue box appears.
- Add or modify the settings:
- Security Level - the current security level of the record.
- Active Security Caveats - the security caveats.
Click Add to add more caveats.
The Security Caveats dialogue box will appear when Add is selected.
Select the caveat you want to attach from the Available Caveats list and click OK to activate it - you can also tag multiple caveats.
To remove a caveat, select it and click Remove.

To modify an Access Control, select it and then click one of the Location buttons:
- Clear
- Private
- Container
- Custom
- Bypass Record Type Access Control references - converts all Access Controls from Record Type defaults to Unrestricted. Modifying Access Controls inherited from the Classification - information for administrators
This option will not bypass Classification Access Controls.
To modify a record's Access Controls inherited from a Classification, either modify the Classification or disassociate the record from its Classification.
- Click OK.
- When users want to downgrade the security of a container and it contains a record that has a higher security level, then the container's Record Type must be set to Display Warning or Ignore. Other settings will not allow you to downgrade the container.
