The Thesaurus editor
When you select Thesaurus Terms from the Manage ribbon, the Thesaurus Editor dialogue box appears.
Thesaurus terms appear in the Name box on the left.
Terms that are in some way related to the selected term will appear in the Related Terms box on the right.
Scope notes for the selected term appear in the bottom box.
You can adjust the size of any of the display boxes within the Thesaurus editor using the mouse.
Content Manager remembers any layout changes you made.
You can search for terms using:
- First character of term - type the first character of the term to find it in the box on the left.
The Prefix Search dialogue box appears.
Click OK.
Content Manager will highlight the the first term that starts with that letter.
- Scroll bar - use the scroll bar to move up and down the list of terms
- Related terms - if there is a term in the Related Terms list that you want to see in more detail, click the term.
Content Manager will display that term in the box on the left with its broader, narrower, related, use and use for terms in the Related Terms box.
- Thesaurus term list - you can view terms that have narrower terms by clicking the expand symbol or collapse sign next to the term.
NOTE:
- All words appear alphabetically in the list regardless of positioning under Top Terms.
This means that a word may appear twice, both on its own and under a broader term.
This is to ensure that single character searches work across the whole Thesaurus and not restricted to top terms.
- Thesaurus listings and caching - while creating new Thesaurus terms, sorting of terms alphabetically may not work correctly when the starting letter is lower case due to the Thesaurus cache table on the Workgroup Server.
This will only occur within the session during which the terms are created.
To re-sort the list, exit Content Manager and then restart it.
The terms will be sorted correctly.
- All words appear alphabetically in the list regardless of positioning under Top Terms.
When you use the Thesaurus function, Content Manager will display all the Thesaurus terms in alphabetical order.
The Thesaurus search function will only display the terms matching what you typed.
To view only the top terms with their expand symbols so you can expand and view related terms, perform the search with nothing in the field and ensure that you have Only show Top Terms selected on the Filter tab.
