Classification Access Controls and security

Content Manager provides a Classification plan for records. This Classification plan has in the past been referred to as Record Plan or File Plan. It enables you to assign a record to a specific category within the Classification plan and to inherit certain default values from that category.

Access Control for the Classification itself

As part of the Classification definition the system administrator can set Access Controls for each class - who can use this class for the creation of new records, who can make changes to class, who can change Access Control on class and who can remove the class. The setting in this area that will affect the day-to-day management of information by Content Manager users is the Can Use setting. If a user is not included in this Access Control, they will not be able to create new records in this class.

Classes to which a user does not have access can remain hidden from that user. This enables you to break down a large Classification plan into usable chunks for both users and Classification administrators.

Default security inheritance

Each individual Classification in the system can be assigned a default security level, caveat(s) and Access Controls.

The records assigned to the Classification will automatically inherit its Security Level and Security Caveat values.

For Access Controls, the same inheritance settings can be applied.
