Currency Additional Fields

A currency field is used to enter monetary values.

When this field is used on an object, a currency symbol is inserted in front of it.

The default currency symbol is set in the System Options - Currency page. However, you can use the field Currency Symbol here to specify a different one for this Additional Field.

See System Options Currency page.

Once this format is selected, the following options become available:

  • Number of decimal places - select the number of decimal places to be displayed in the tree/view panes. The number of decimal places entered onto data entry forms will display as entered. A maximum of 8 decimal places are allowed.
  • Allow negative numbers - select this option to allow users to enter negative numbers.
  • Minimum Value - set the lowest value that the field can have.

This is a value field, rather than a character length field, for example, 1.

    The minimum allowed value is -999 999 999 999 999.

  • Maximum Value - set the highest value that the field can have - 15 digits.

This is a value field, rather than a character length field, for example, 16383.

    The maximum allowed value is 999 999 999 999 999.

  • Default Value - set a default value that will appear in the field when it is used for an object
  • Currency Symbol - to set this Additional Field to use a currency symbol other than the system default

NOTE:

  • For currency fields, the field length includes the decimal point and decimal places.
  • Decimal places - the new currency field will be created with as many decimal places as you care to type. When you are entering information into a currency field on an item however, although you can enter more than two numbers after the decimal point but for display purposes it will be rounded to two decimal places.
  • Setting the maximum and minimum values will automatically set the size of the field.
  • Behaviour for Number, Decimal and Currency Additional Fields. Blank values are treated the same as 0 values.

See also Creating Additional Fields for definitions of the other common fields - for example, Name and Abbreviation - that appear on this dialogue.
