Setting up Global Settings
Global settings are set on a per database basis.
This dialogue enables you to set what you want to save as global defaults:
- Save ribbon, status bar and tab bar settings
- Save user configuration options
- Save view pane and list pane customisations
See below for a list of what these options modify when a user clicks Get Global.
This function works in conjunction with the Lockdown options on the Administration - System Options - System Options Miscellaneous page.
You can save individual settings for Content Manager Desktop for:
- Ribbon
- Status bar
- Tab bar display mode
For all other global settings, Content Manager Desktop uses the same settings as the Content Manager rich client.
On the Content Manager administrator computer:
- Start the Content Manager rich client
- Start Content Manager Desktop
- In Content Manager Desktop, make the changes to the settings you want users to be able to use
- Close Content Manager Desktop
- In the Content Manager rich client, on the Administration menu, click Save Global Settings.
Content Manager Desktop global settings are saved.
On the Content Manager administrator computer:
- Make the desired changes to the Content Manager administrator environment
- Exit Content Manager on the Content Manager administrator computer
- Open Content Manager on the Content Manager administrator computer
- Click Administration - Save Global Settings.
The Select Options To Transfer To Global dialogue box appears.
- Tag the settings to save:
- Cascade Properties - default properties and fields for cascade properties.
- Command Shortcuts - ribbon command shortcuts such as saved searches and search forms.
- Dashboard - dashboard settings; right-click in the Dashboard window to access the Dashboard Settings.
- Default Sort and Filters - default search sorting and filtering
- Default Sort and Filters for trays - default search sorting and filtering for trays
- Documents - defaults when a document is dropped onto Content Manager
- Dropped Folders - filtering for dropped folders
- Dropzone
- Email - sending email settings
- Explorer - Explorer Settings; right-click in the Explorer window to access the Explorer Settings.

- Language - language and other regional settings
- Mobile Client - Mobile Client Settings
- Outlook Add-In - Content Manager In Outlook configuration.
NOTE: If a Default check in style for email messages or Default check in style for email messages in Sent Items is set to a Check In Style that the users retrieving the Global Settings do not have permissions to access the users will get an error message when they attempt to save their new settings. Users will need to either remove the retrieved default setting by clicking Clear or update the option to be a Check In Style they have access to.

- Select Record Type - how to display suitable Record Types when creating a new record.
NOTE: The list of favourite record types is not saved as a part of the Global Settings, only the Display the following favourite record types first option and the Then, display record types matching the following saved search settings. If the System Options - User Interface - Lockdown style is set to Lock Down users will still be able to modify the list of favourite record types to be displayed.
- Spelling - spell checker dictionaries
- Start Up - windows to display when starting Content Manager
- Tree Box Columns - default properties and fields for tree boxes
- User Interface - user interface settings
- View Pane Items - default properties and fields for view panes
- Viewer - viewers/applications to use when displaying electronic documents
- Web Client - Web Client Preferences stores the following: Document Viewer Preferences; Timezone information; Search Results page size; Explorer settings; default properties; grid view settings and Record Type display order.
- Web Client Commands - menu commands and popups for the Web Client command shortcut bar
- Click OK
- Exit Content Manager on the Content Manager administrator computer
- Open Content Manager on the user's computer.
If Content Manager is already open, close it, then open it again.
- Select File - Options - Get Global.
NOTE:
- When you use Get Global, Content Manager resets all captions that you have modified in the current session to either the Content Manager default or the settings the administrator has applied
- Global settings affect all button captions
- If Lockdown is turned on, global settings have to be reset to commit any caption modifications
- You can only set and get global settings while connected to a database, not working offline
- By default, users of user type Records Co-ordinator and above have the permission Bypass ribbon and appearance lockdown to enable them to create their own ribbon and menus.
They will never load the global ribbon and menu settings.
