Checking or optimizing a document content index

Content Manager Enterprise Studio enables you to check and optimize IDOL document content indexes.

CAUTION: You must suspend the Content Indexing processor before using the Content Manager Enterprise Studio Check or Optimize commands. See Configuring event processing.

  1. For either option, right-click the dataset and on the Content Index menu, click:
    • Check - checks the index for errors.

      To rectify errors:

      • restore the IDOL data from a backup and reindex all documents from the date of that backup

        -- or --

      • recreate the complete content indexing database using Content Manager Enterprise Studio
    • Optimize - enables you to reduce the space left when documents in the child IDOL server’s data index are deleted. Using IDOL's DRECOMPACT command, it fills the space created through the document deletion with new documents, similar to the defragmentation process.

NOTE: It is good practice to back up the child IDOL servers before optimizing them.

  2. Set the Content Indexing processor to Enabled to continue content indexing.

    See Configuring event processing.

  3. In the main toolbar, click Save and then Deploy to save your configuration changes and deploy them to the Workgroup Servers
