Indexing in Content Manager
Indexing makes the indexed data available for searching. Content Manager uses a number of complementary methods to index the dataset.
For indexing the content of electronic documents attached to records, Content Manager uses the OpenText Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL). For more information about Content Manager document content indexing (DCI), see CM23.4_IDOL_DCI_Install_Config.pdf.
IDOL also indexes some of the Content Manager record metadata for use in third-party applications like ControlPoint.
Content Manager also uses word indexing through its event processor, which indexes the words in the text fields in Content Manager objects. See Index Text
To use Enterprise IDOL to index Content Manager data, you need to use the Content Manager CFS connector to pass indexing data to IDOL to keep the Content Manager user security settings synchronized with IDOL. The CFS connector requires a separate installation and configuration.
See CM23.4_IDOL_DCI_Install_Config.pdf for details about Content Manager connector installation and configuration.
Content Manager indexes the following key record metadata:
- Unique identifier (URI)
- Record number
- Record title
- External Reference
- Security locks
- Date Registered
- Date Created
- Container
- Classification
- Originated From
- Notes
- Additional Fields that have been selected to be indexed in IDOL
- All Contacts
When there are changes to this metadata, Content Manager passes these changes to IDOL.
