Document content index
Document content searching enables Content Manager users to search for records by the content of their attached electronic documents, rather than by the record metadata like a date, Location or record title.
NOTE:
This topic assumes you are using OpenText Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) for document content indexing (DCI) as described in CM24.1_IDOL_DCI_Install_Config.pdf.
It is not relevant if you are setup and configured to use Elasticsearch as described in CM24.1_ElasticsearchInstall_Config.pdf.
Content Manager uses the OpenText Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) for document content indexing. By default, when installing the Content Manager Workgroup Server, you are also installing an OEM version of the IDOL Server. However, the Content Manager Workgroup Server is not necessary for IDOL content indexing. Therefore, the Content Manager services do not need to be running on the IDOL Server. If the Workgroup Service is not going to run on the IDOL Server, do not register the server in Content Manager Enterprise Studio as a Workgroup Server to avoid errors in other Workgroup Server logs about being unable to communicate with the non-active Workgroup Server.
The installation establishes two distributed IDOL content engines, the Content Manager IDOL Service, which communicates with Content Manager, and two Content Manager IDOL Content Services, which do the indexing. Within each content engine, the IDOL Service communicates with the IDOL Content Services using a Distributed Indexing Handler (DIH) and a Distributed Action Handler (DAH). These have their own log files.
By default, the DIHs and DAHs are installed to the Content Manager application folder. The path to them is determined by the location of the Content Manager ServerData folder, unless they were specifically set to use a different folder in the IDOL configuration file.
By default, the setup is not mirrored.
The IDOL Content Services create the indexes in a number of folders in C:\Micro Focus Content Manager\IDOL\TRIM Content Service N by default.
The Content Manager text extractor extracts content from documents in plain text in a format that can be indexed, and passes the output directly to the IDOL engine. If you are using the IDOL Media Server with your IDOL installation, it will perform optical character recognition (OCR) on images and index the image text.
If you have been using Content Manager document content indexing in previous versions of Content Manager, you need to transition to using IDOL technology for DCI. See Transitioning from legacy ISYS document content indexing.
You can also use your existing implementation of Enterprise IDOL with Content Manager. See Setting up document content indexing and searching.
