Windows File System document store

When you create an electronic document store by selecting store type Windows File System, then Content Manager will create a folder on the specified disk drive.

Content Manager names the document store folder after the two-character Content Manager dataset identifier, for example, T5. Each Content Manager dataset should have a unique dataset identifier.

Any document store created for a given dataset will be created as sub-folders at the dataset identifier sub-folder.

The first store created is named 1, the second 2 etc.

Each sub-folder beneath the store number is where the documents are kept, for example, 00 is the first sub-folder containing documents beneath store 1.

When the sub-folder has reached its capacity - the default is 1000 documents - then Content Manager will automatically create sub-folder number 2.

Thus a single dataset with the dataset identifier T5 and two stores for the dataset will have the folder structure:

  • Content Manager
    • Backup
    • Bin
    • MyDB
      • T5
        • 1
        • 2
          • 000
          • 001

When Content Manager checks in and stores an electronic record, it copies the record file from its source folder to the appropriate store sub-folder. The file is read-only to prevent unauthorised removal.

See New Windows file system document store for the store properties.
