Modifying field captions
- On the Administration menu, click Edit Captions.
- From the drop-down list, select the category name where the caption will be listed. The fields you can rename are separated into the following categories:
- Objects - basic fields associated to Content Manager objects
- Generic Items - the items in some of the basic fields:
- Search Clauses
- Properties
- Enumerated lists - the preformatted lists
- User Option Sets - other fields associated to Content Manager options.
- Select the Content Manager object type from the drop-down list, if all object type captions are to be listed, select All.
- Click Search
to load the list of captions relevant to the selected options.NOTE: The list order can be sorted into ascending or descending order by clicking the column header name, e.g. click Internal Name to sort the list by the caption name.
- The list of captions can be further refined by:
- Only show captions that have been changed - select this option to update the list of captions to only display those that have already been modified.
- To refine the list by a particular term, in the search field, users can type in a term that would be found in the caption name or that is a field of that type, e.g. Date.
Click Clear
to remove the typed search term to reload the list to the selected category and object type list.
- Click the caption name to be modified and complete the details:
- Caption - type the new caption
- Abbreviation - optional - type an abbreviation or acronym for the caption.
This abbreviation is only used by the option Report Layouts - Use Short User Caption.
If abbreviated captions are to be used in reports, you must set them up in this field first.
- Caption - When Plural Form Required - type the plural version of the caption.
If the last character is in upper case, then the rules above are also applied in upper case, otherwise they will be lower case.
Only some items support plural form, specifically objects, not properties of objects.
For example, Content Manager dataset has a plural option and within that tree, Location default also has a plural option, but under that, Assignee and default Organization of Assignee do not.
In these cases, the original caption is sometimes, but not always, reflected in brackets in the list pane.
- Click OK.
The new captions will not appear until you select another item.
Resetting the Captions
- Reset - resets the selected caption to its default.
- Reset List - this option is available in conjunction with the Only show captions that have been changed option - resets all displayed captions to their default.
- Reset All - resets all captions to their default.
