Tip of the day
The tip of the day message contains a set of messages that you can modify to suit your needs.
When you first log into Content Manager, the Tip of the Day message box appears.
- Show Tips at Startup - selected by default.
Clear it so the tips will not appear in future Content Manager sessions.
- Next - views the next tip
- Close - closes the Tip of the Day message
- Click Help - Tip of the Day.
- Select Show Tips at Startup to display the tips at startup in future Content Manager sessions.
The messages in the Tip of the Day message dialogue box are within the TIPS.txt file in each user's Content Manager application folder on their computer.
- Copy the file TIPS.txt or for languages other than English (International) TIPS_xx.txt.
- Keep the original file in a safe location
- Open the copy in an editor of your choice.
It is recommended you use Windows Notepad, as it is not as intrusive as some other editors and will not place any formatting on the text.
- Type the tips text.
Each tip is on a new line.
CAUTION: Do not put a new line at the end of the last tip or the tips will not cycle through from the last tip to the first tip.
- Save the file TIPS.txt.
- Test the TIPS.txt file by copying it into your Content Manager application folder - you may want to save a copy of the default TIPS.txt file first
- When the file is the way you want it, copy it to each user's Content Manager application folder on their computer.
- The new tips will appear either the next time they access Content Manager or when they select Tip of the Day from the Help menu.
If you do not have a TIPS.txt file in your Content Manager application folder, the following message appears:
Did You Know that your tips data file is missing or inaccessible!
Since TIPS.txt resides on each user's computer, a user could modify this file. As a safeguard, you could make the file Read Only or copy the original file to each user's computer regularly.
For an alternative method of using messages at log on in Content Manager, see Content Manager Enterprise Studio Help topic Database Logon and Broadcast Messages.
