Search methods
When searching using the Boolean or string search editors, you first select a search method.
A search method refers to a piece of information or metadata about a record.
In Content Manager, you can use almost any piece of information to find a record.
For example,
- Title
- Number
- Date created
To use a search method for searching in the Boolean search editor, select it in the Search By field. There are different ways of searching in Content Manager - see Finding records.
- From the Search menu, select Find Records
- At the bottom of the dialogue, click the Editor button and make sure that the Boolean search editor is selected
- In the Search By field, type the search method or caption to search by.
You can also click KwikSelect, and Content Manager displays the search methods listed by category, in an alphabetical list, or by format. -
When you are viewing the search methods by category or format, click the expand symbol to expand them
- Select the search method you want to use and click OK
You can use recursive searches within Locations, Classification and Access Control search methods.
They will find records using a Location or Classification that is hierarchically linked to another Location/Classification.
For example, select an Organisation Location to display records held by the organisation, by sub-organisations within the organisation, by positions within the organisation and by persons within the organisation.
You can include a specific Access Control value, such as "View Metadata" for records within the recursive search.
To perform a recursive search, in the Boolean search editor, select the option Recursive.
In the multi-field search editor, type or KwikSelect the Location or Classification and append a plus character (+).
