Options Spelling page

Content Manager provides a spelling checker for record titles, notes and certain other fields.

Use Dictionaries

Select one or more of the dictionaries to be the basis of spelling checks:

• English (International) - default
• English (United States)
• French
• Spanish
• Dutch - the Dutch dictionary includes the new spelling (De Nieuwe Spelling)
• German
• Italian
• Portuguese
• Portuguese (Brazil)
• Russian
• Swedish

• NOTE: If you choose to load all dictionaries, spelling checks may take time as Content Manager will use all files that are installed during the spelling checking process.

• Advanced - click for spelling checker options:
  • Ignore capitalised words, e.g., Australia - select to ignore words beginning with a capital letter.

    You might select this option when the text contains many proper names.

  • Ignore all-caps words, e.g., ASAP - select to ignore words containing all capital letters.

    You might select this option when the text contains many acronyms.

  • Ignore words with numbers, e.g., Win2000 - select to ignore words containing embedded digits.

    You might select this option when the text contains many code words or other symbols containing digits.

  • Ignore words with mixed case, e.g., InterNet - select to ignore words containing an unusual mixture of upper and lower-case letters.

    You might select this option when the text contains many variable names or other symbols which use case changes to distinguish words.

  • Ignore domain names, e.g. towersoft.com - select to ignore words containing domain names.

    You might select this option when the text contains many Internet addresses.

  • Report doubled words, e.g., the the - select to report words appearing twice in a row via the Check Spelling dialogue box.

    Selected by default.

  • Case sensitive - select to make a distinction between capitalised and non-capitalised words - for example, canada is considered different from Canada; so canada would be reported as misspelt.

    When the option is not selected, canada and Canada are considered identical.

    Selected by default.

  • Phonetic suggestions (English only) - select to make suggestions on the basis of phonetic similarity as well as typographical similarity.

    Tends to improve suggestions for badly misspelled words.

    Select to increase the time spent to locate suggestions.

  • Typographical suggestions - select to make suggestions on the basis of typographical similarity.

    Provides suggestions for words that are slightly misspelled.

    Selected by default.

  • Suggest split words - select for Content Manager to suggest two separate words as a replacement for two joined words, for example, is the would be suggested as a replacement for isthe.

    Selected by default.

  • Auto correct - select to replace words automatically.

    Typically, auto correct dictionaries hold frequently misspelled words and their correct replacements - for example, an auto correct dictionary may contain the misspelled word recieve and its replacement receive.

    Each item in an auto correct dictionary contains a word and the replacement, separated by a colon, for example, recieve:receive.

    NOTE:

    This option is selected by default.

    For organisations that use many acronyms and abbreviations, it is recommended you consider clearing this option as auto-correcting with these can lead to undesirable results.

  Suggestions

  Select the option to use for auto correction:

  • Fast but less accurate
  • Moderately fast and accurate - selected by default
  • Slow but accurate
