About Bypass viewer for the following file types

If you do not want to use the generic viewer for certain types of documents, then type in the file extensions of those documents and click Add.

For example, if you would rather see a spreadsheet by using a spreadsheet application such as Excel, you would type in the file extension xls or *.xls.

This will add it to the File Type list.

NOTE:

  • The ability to bypass file extensions is only available in the full Content Manager client.

    Offline Records ignores these settings.

When you use View from Offline Records, the file will open in the default Content Manager viewer.

  • Printing documents that have a bypass set will not display a confirmation dialogue box.

If you are bypassing the internal Content Manager viewer, then you will be printing from the associated application.

For example, if Bypass the viewer for the following file types is selected for Word documents, then selecting File - Print in Content Manager will just print the document.

If the bypass is not set, the viewer does the printing and a confirmation message appears.

See CM24.4_Spec.pdf in the Content Manager installation folder's Documentation folder for a list of known limitations.

  • It is advisable not to use Browser Plugin for .tif documents as the focus stays on Content Manager and not the viewing window.

As the following file types do not appear accurately within the viewer, they are set by default to be bypassed by the Content Manager viewer:

  • Executable files (*.exe)
  • Links (*.lnk)
  • URLs (*.url)
  • Help files (*.hlp)
