Content Manager

OpenText Content Manager software is an integrated Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system capable of managing the full range of corporate information.

From electronic documents and records through content management to the management of hard copy records and documents, Content Manager software provides all the necessary functionality in a single off-the-shelf application.

Integrations

Integration with OpenText Blazon™ Enterprise Server

In the previous versions of Content Manager for Long Term Storage (PDF) rendition, Content Manager used Objective Onstream (OnstreamPrinterFiles to install printer drivers) and Objective Trapeze viewer. From 23.4 onwards, Content Manager uses OpenText Blazon Enterprise Server for Content Manager Document Rendering feature. The usage of OnstreamPrinterFiles is discontinued from Content Manager 23.4 onwards.

Install the OpenText Blazon Enterprise Server on a computer on your network and run the Content Manager Blazon Integration x64.msi to integrate Blazon Enterprise Server with Content Manager.

You have to provide details of Blazon Queue Server and staging folder in the Rendering tab of Content Manager Enterprise Studio, to enable the Workgroup Server to process automatic PDF request generation.

For more information, see Installing the Blazon Enterprise Server section in Content Manager Installation and Upgrade Guide, Content Manager Enterprise Studio help, and Content Managerhelp.

Integration with OpenText Brava!™

From 23.4 onwards, Content Manager uses OpenText Brava for redaction, annotation, PDF and enhanced image viewer feature. The Objective Trapeze viewer is replaced by OpenText Brava.

In the previous versions, for redaction and annotation, you had to convert electronic document to .tiff format. The OpenText Brava overcomes by supporting redaction and annotation on PDF formats. Hence, .tiff rendition functionality is removed from Content Manager.

NOTE: If you are upgrading from a previous version of Content Manager and have draft version(s) of annotated electronic documents, then after upgrading to Content Manager 23.4 or later, the annotations in the draft version(s) will not be available. It is recommended to permanently save the draft version(s) before upgrading to Content Manager 23.4 or later versions.

For more details on Content Manager annotation and redaction, see Redactions and Annotations.

Auto redaction

The OpenText Brava provides an option, Redact Using Scripts, that allows you to run a command to find and redact specified phrases and sections of a document in one action, through the use of redaction scripts.

The OpenText Brava comes pre-populated with a list of redaction scripts that can be run on documents (Find and redact social security numbers, email addresses, etc). You can use these sample files, located in the installed MacroExampleScripts directory, or create custom scripts. You can use search string commands or macros in your redaction script files to search and redact specific lists of words and search patterns.

Redacting privacy information

The OpenText Brava provides an option, Redact Privacy Info, to find and redact sensitive information commonly found in documents and forms including Social Security numbers, Phone numbers, Email addresses, Date of birth, and names.

This dialog acts as a convenient tool for using the available predefined search macros without needing to format search strings. You can select one or more of the text pattern methods to apply to the current document.

Searching text in document

With the Search Text function, you can search for text (normal phrases and text patterns) contained in a document or drawing file. The Search Text function also processes image format documents using OCR to convert the image text to searchable text.

The Term Hit option in the Search Text function allows you to enable or disable the highlighting mode for viewing text patterns found in the document or OCR text. When selected, all the matching results are highlighted in yellow.

Extensibility

Whilst Content Manager is a fully enabled out-of-the-box records and document management solution, there are times when this solution needs to be extended to incorporate some customer-specific requirements. You may wish to integrate with line of business systems that use record such as accounting and personnel, external workflow packages, etc. There are a number of ways this can be achieved using some of the programming interfaces provided with Content Manager:

External Links - to integrate functionality directly into the main Windows client, or to add simple verification code. For additional information, see External Links.

Custom Event Processing - allowing you to receive and process event notifications programmatically (Content Manager has many different event types). For additional information, see Content Manager Enterprise Studio Help > Dataset setup and maintenance > Configuring event processing > Custom Processes tab

Content Manager .NET SDK - this is a fully functional programming interface allowing you to build your own bespoke interface for your content management needs. It has a comprehensive object model exposing all the properties and functions of Content manager that you can see in the main Content Manager windows client. This SDK is designed especially for .NET development and requires the installation of the main Content Manager client on the machine that is running your customized application. Additional information on the SDK can be found:

Content Manager COM SDK - this is a binary interface designed for a high level of operability over a number of releases of the Content Manager product. It was the original SDK and due to the binary compatibility requirements, does not get updated as continuously as the .NET SDK. It uses the same object model as the .NET SDK and exposes close to the same set of properties - some of the methods will be more basic in the COM SDK. To use the COM SDK, as well as have a full Content Manager client installed, you will need to register the COM SDK to be able to use it. The standard Content Manager installer does not automatically register this library.

To register the COM SDK, you need run the CM_COMcomponents_xx.msi to register the COM SDK.

For more details on Content Manager COM SDK programming, refer to CM24.4_COMSDK.pdf in the installation media.

Content Manager ServiceAPI - this is a web service that allows you to design apps that can run without the need to install the Content Manager client. It is ideal for building Web and Cloud based applications that leverage the rich functionality of Content Manager. It is built over the .NET SDK and provides a similar set of functionality but packaged in a way that suits modern web applications. To access documentation for the ServiceAPI you should install this Component on your development machine, choosing to download the documentation components, then access the help information using the following URL http://localhost/CMServiceAPI/help/index
