Search Editor
The Search Editor dialog allows you to build a search based using multiple search methods. To open the Search Editor, on any Select from... dialogs, click Search Editor, and a Search for... dialog will display.
The available search methods will differ depending on the type of Content Manager object is being searched for.
To build a search using the Search Editor, you need to select the required search method and then enter the search criteria. Multiple search methods and criteria can be added to the search, and can be combined using search operators such as AND, OR and/or NOT.
Selecting a search method
Searching for a search method
- In the Select a Search Method section, in the Type to search field, type in the name or part of the name of the search method, e.g. any word, or the type of search method, e.g. date.
- Select the required search method from the displayed results and the Add Search Method section will display.
Browsing for a search method
The list of search methods can be displayed by:
- Alphabetic - displays all search methods in an alphabetical order.
- Category - displays all search methods, grouped by their category, e.g. Dates and Times, Additional Fields.
- Format - displays all search methods grouped by the type of data they search, e.g. String, Object
- Select the format to display the search methods in.
- Scroll through the list of search methods, or on the keyboard, you can select the first letter of the search method you're looking for and you'll jump to the first search method in the list that starts with the same letter, when the require search method has been found, select the search method and the Add Search Method section will display.
Completing the search criteria
Depending on the type of search method selected, the Add Search Method section may include options such as a:
Date Range - search for items using a single date or range or dates. Type the required date into the Date field, or click the Calendar button
, and navigate to, and then select, the required date.
- To change the Month, click in the displayed current Month and Year and then select the required Month.
- To change the Year, click in the displayed current Month and Year, click to scroll through the years, and select the required Year.
To change the default time in a Date/Time field, type the required time into the Time section.
NOTE: Times can be typed in as 24 hour times or 12 hour times (using AM or PM); the required format for times is hh:mm:ss (the seconds are not mandatory).
String based date searches, e.g. today, this year, can be selected from the Calendar dialog. Click the drop-down on the More Dates... field to select a pre-defined string date criteria.
Select single item - type in, or use the KwikSelect to find, the required search criteria.
Some search methods may require you to select or define additional options for the search criteria, for example, if searching for a GPS Location, you need to define the specific distance to search for; if searching for an Access Control, you need to defined which Access Control to search within.
- Type in, or select, the search criteria for the selected search method.
- If the defined search criteria is to be excluded from the search, select not.
- Click Add to add the defined search clause to the Build Search section.
If multiple search clauses are to be added, repeat the above steps for each search clause that is to be added to the search.
Each search clause will be joined by an AND search operator. To change this to an OR search operator, click the AND search pill and it will change to be an OR search operator. Click the search operator pill to toggle between AND and OR.
When all search clauses have been added, click OK on the Search for... dialog to run the search.
