Create iManager Template

Create iManager Template enables you to create your own customized plug-in that contains a single task or property page. This process lets you select specific Novell® eDirectory attributes that you want to edit with the task or property page that you are creating. After the attributes have been selected, you can choose the controls to edit the attribute values. You can also select the order in which the controls appear in the interface. After iManager has this information, it creates the template and registration files that let you install your task or plug-in into eDirectory.

NOTE: Tasks and property pages created with Create iManager Template cannot read or write attributes that are stored as an octet string.

You might find this template useful in the following situations:

• If you want to manage custom objects (as a result of having previously extended your schema)
• If you want to allow access to specific objects and attributes
• If you want to simplify the user interface for commonly managed objects and attributes

For example, suppose you wanted to give users the ability to set or change their own network passwords. You could create a task that would give them access to only the password attribute of their own User object.
