&IS-ALPHA

Examines an argument and returns 1 if the argument contains alphabetic characters only; otherwise returns 0.
Restriction: This topic applies only when the AppMaster Builder AddPack has been installed, and applies only to Windows platforms.

Syntax:

&IS-ALPHA (&variablename)

Aliases:

&is-alpha (&variablename) &Is-Alpha (&variablename)
&isalpha (&variablename) &IsAlpha (&variablename)
&ISALPHA (&variablename)

Comments:

  • If &variablename is numeric, &IS-ALPHA returns 0.
  • The original argument remains unchanged.
  • National characters such as #&$ are not considered alphabetic.

Examples:

&IS-ALPHA ("123") = 0
&IS-ALPHA ("+123") = 0
&IS-ALPHA ("-123") = 0
&IS-ALPHA ("ABC") = 1
&IS-ALPHA ("abc") = 1
&IS-ALPHA ("abc%") = 0
&IS-ALPHA ("") = 0
&IS-ALPHA (1) = 0
