3.1 New Session Wizard

The wizard creates a session with many default settings, which determine how the session appears, operates, and interacts with you. You can later edit these settings to accommodate your preferences.

NOTE:To create a new session with a profile identical or similar to an existing session, use the Save Session As command instead of the New Session wizard.

To create a new session

  1. If you already have a session open, from the File menu, choose New Session, or choose the New Session button from the toolbar.

  2. Select a host type and click Next.

  3. Select a session type and click Next.

  4. Select a connection type and click Next.

  5. Set the options for the selected connection and click Next.

  6. Select a file transfer type if you want to do a file transfer; otherwise select None.

  7. If you are satisfied with your settings, click Finish.

    The new session displays.

  8. From the File menu, choose Save.

You can save the session with any name. The default file extensions indicate the session type - .EDP for display sessions, and .EPP for printer sessions.

New Session Wizard - Connection Type

The Connection Type window displays a list of connection types to the host. Select the connection type you want and choose Next. Choose Back if you want to select a different session type.

New Session Wizard - File Transfer Type

Select the type of file transfer to the host that you want to use. (If you do not want to transfer files, do not change the selection from None.)

File transfer is the process of moving files between your PC and the host. You can transfer a file from your PC to the host so that other host users can access it. Conversely, you can transfer a host file to your PC where you might, for example, bring it into a word processing or spreadsheet application.

To transfer files, you must communicate with a file transfer tool on the host. Each host type has certain types of file transfer tools that are designed to support it.

All sessions support FTP, which is the Internet standard File Transfer Protocol. FTP is generally the fastest method for transferring files, because it always makes its own connection, except for any active display session. If you want to use FTP to transfer files, your host must have an FTP server.

So that you can distinguish between display and printer sessions, we recommend that you maintain the file extensions of .EDP (display session) and .EPP (printer session).
