3.5.1 Opening a Printer Session

Before you can print host data, a printer session must be opened. A printer session may be opened from a display session, an open printer session, or in a variety of file-oriented methods.

Opening a printer session establishes connections between your PC, the host, and the printer. You can open a printer session when you first start Extra!, and from that session you can open additional sessions.

You can open printer sessions for any installed host type. However, unlike IBM hosts, a printer session is not required when printing from a VAX/VMS, UNIX, or asynchronous host.

You open a printer session by selecting a file with an .EPP extension. A profile defines how a session appears, operates, and interacts with you. As a file consisting of settings, a profile specifies a session's connection type, and other attributes, all of which you can change to accommodate your preferences.
