Description

Prompt For Host When Connecting

Select this option if you want to choose the host when you initiate a connection. When you select this option, the Host option becomes unavailable.

Choose Host Name Now

Select this option to avoid having to choose the host when you initiate a connection. When you select this option, you should also select a Host name.

Host

Type the name or IP address of the host to which you want to connect, or select a Host name from the list. The list displays up to four of your most recently used Host names, a double line separator, and the host names in the Hosts File if it exists. The host name you type does not have to be one of those displayed in the list.

When you connect through a proxy, host name lookup for the remote host is performed by the proxy. To be sure that host names are resolved correctly, do not use abbreviated names for hosts outside your local area network.

Telnet Port

Specifies the number of your host's Telnet port. The usual Telnet port is 23.

Action on Host Disconnect

Choose which action you want to take if the host disconnects from your session.

Leave Disconnected

When selected, Extra! does not attempt to reconnect to the host. If you wish to reconnect, you will have to do so manually by choosing Connect from the Session menu or the Connect/Disconnect toolbar button.

Prompt for Reconnection

When selected, Extra! prompts you to choose a host from a list of host addresses before attempting to reconnect the session.

Reconnect Automatically

When selected, Extra! attempts to reconnect to the host automatically, without prompting you first.

Exit Session Automatically

When selected, your session will end immediately if a disconnection occurs.

To make a Telnet connection

  1. Start a new session, and select Telnet as your Connection type.

  2. In the Telnet General page, select either Prompt For Host When Connecting or Choose A Host Name Now.

NOTE:If you use a Telnet or FTP proxy, Host name lookup for the remote host is performed by the proxy. The proxy might use a different Domain Name Server than you would use locally. To be sure that Host names are resolved correctly, do not use abbreviated names for hosts outside your local area network.

  4. If you want to use a port other than the default port 23, enter the port number in the Telnet port box.

  5. Select the action you want Extra! to perform if the host disconnects your session.

  6. Choose the Advanced tab to set additional Telnet options.

  7. To select proxy or SSL/TLS security options, choose the Security tabs.

  8. From the Session menu, choose Connect.

If you select Prompt For Host When Connecting, the Host option becomes unavailable. You are prompted to select a host when you attempt to make a connection.

    -or-

If you select Terminal Type All (the default), during negotiation with the host the display responds first with the type of terminal currently set. On subsequent requests, it cycles through the list of available terminal types, and restarts after sending the last type twice. The list might include VT420, VT320, VT220, VT100, VT52, DEC-VT420, DEC-VT320, DEC-VT220, DEC-VT100, and DEC-VT52. The host selects a terminal type from the list. If none of the terminal types presented is accepted during negotiation, the most advanced type available becomes the default.
