Creating and Editing Identification Fields

From the Edit Identification Field Dialog Box, you can specify the row position, column position, and length for a field used to identify the host screen page. You can have the program use asterisk (*) wild card characters.

Identification fields contain information that is unique to a screen and that always appears on the screen. You can edit the default identification fields and create as many as you need to uniquely identify each screen.

You can change the position and size of any field and specify if the position of the marked text is important. The search for the text begins at the location you marked and does not identify the screen unless the text appears in that exact location. You can either specify an area of the screen for the search or the entire space if the position is not important.

Use this dialog box to specify the location and the type of data in the identification field. The dialog box also displays data contained in the identification field.

Dialog Box Fields:

Row: Specify the beginning row for the identification field.

Column: Specify the beginning column for the identification field.

Length: Specify the length (number of characters) for this identification field.

Type: Specify where the application can look for this field when it is tries to identify the screen. You can also specify whether the position of the data is important. Your choices are:

  • Absolute Position: The data must appear at the exact row and column coordinates that you specified.

  • Anywhere in this Column: The data can appear anywhere in the column specified.
