9.1 The Status Application

There are three types of information you can gather using the Status window. The first type of information is an Audit Log that tracks the work Extra! is doing. The second and third types of information are traces, one of API calls and the other of communications traffic. Support for host response measurements, or Response Time Monitoring (RTM) is also provided.

The audit log is automatically generated while you use Extra!. The Audit log traps all the critical events that take place and displays them on the Audit Log page. API traces can contain information on the calls made by several common APIs. For example, if you have an OLE application that is not working, you could capture all the API calls that your OLE application sends and receives. This information is displayed on your screen and is also saved to a file. Communication traces are similar to API traces, but the information is not shown on your screen. By starting and stopping a trace for a specific session, you capture all the communications traffic for that session to a trace file.
