SQL Server Requirements

Supported Versions

File Dynamics 24.1 supports the following versions of SQL Server:

  • SQL Server 2022
  • SQL Server 2019

Supported Editions

The following editions of SQL Server are supported in production:

  • SQL Server Express
  • SQL Server Standard
  • SQL Server Enterprise

We do not recommend that you install the Engine on the same server running SQL Server. If you will be using SQL Server Express, you can run it on the same server host, but you will most likely experience better performance if they are running on a separate server.

If you do not already own SQL Server, you can use SQL Server Express. You can download a current version of SQL Server Express for free at: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-downloads.

NOTE: While SQL Server Express is sufficient in many cases, please be aware of its current limits around processing and disk capacity. Some scenarios may require more than the 10GB storage limit that this edition current supports.

Dedicated Instance

It is strongly recommended that you use configure a dedicated instance of SQL Server for File Dynamics, due to considerations with security and collation.
