7.14 MSS Administrative Console Reference

The Host Access Management and Security Server (MSS) provides an Administrative Console, a web-based centralized location where you can manage sessions, assign sessions to users, configure authentication, and much more. Work flows that include configuring additional settings in the MSS Administrative Console are marked with this icon

in the HACloud documentation.

This list includes the MSS Administrative Console functionality that is used by HACloud, including direct links to the associated sections in the MSS documentation. You can find these settings in the MSS Administrative Console left navigation panel.

  • Manage Sessions

On this panel, Add and configure a Host Access for the Cloud session.

  • Assign Access

Use Assign Access to specify which sessions each user has access to. When LDAP authorization is enabled, different sessions can be assigned to specific users and groups. With other types of authorization, all users get all authorized sessions. See Assign Access

  • Configure Settings - Authentication and Authorization

Use to configure how users are authenticated when accessing the system and which method to use for authorizing their access to sessions. See Select a method to authenticate users .

  • Configure Settings - Automated Sign-on

This feature enables an end user to automatically log on to a mainframe host application using a terminal emulation client. Settings must be configured in the MSS Administrative Console, in the HACloud client, and on z/OS. See these references.

  • Metering

MSS provides metering capabilities to monitor host sessions. See: .

  • Kerberos automatic sign-on (IBM 5250 only)

Kerberos is an authentication protocol that uses cryptographic tickets to avoid transmitting plain text passwords. To configure Kerberos, open the MSS Administrative Console and select Host Access for the Cloud from the drop down list:

When you configure HACloud to use the Kerberos authentication protocol there are terms that you should understand and prerequisites to adhere to in advance of configuring this option. These options are explained in detail in the MSS Administrative Console > Host Access for the Cloud panel documentation. Choose Host Access for the Cloud from the drop down list, then select Kerberos Settings, and click the Help button.

  • Terminal ID Manager

MSS provides a Terminal ID Manager to pool terminal IDs, track ID usage, and manage inactivity timeout values for specific users, thus conserving terminal ID resources and significantly reducing operating expenses. An additional license is required. See these references:
