Synonym functionality in IDOL allows searches for conceptually similar terms when certain terms are used in the query text. In this case, conceptually similar terms are defined by the synonyms provided to the IDOL Server.
You can use synonyms in IDOL in one of three ways:
Activate Synonyms in an IDOL Server. This solution is the easiest, but least scalable.
Add a Synonym Content Engine. This solution is much more scalable, but the front end has to be aware of the synonym server.
Use QMS Synonym Functionality. This solution retains scalability, and the front end can route all IDOL actions through the QMS transparently.
