Troubleshoot License Issues

The following section describes some common licensing problems, and the solutions.

A Specific Module Fails to Obtain a License

If a module fails to obtain a license, check that License Server is running and that the module can contact it. Check that License Server has enough licenses available to give to the module.

Check what Licenses are Available Or In Use

The LicenseInfo action allows you to display details of products that the License Server can license, and of licenses that are available, as well as licenses that have already been granted. This action also displays the component name (Content, Community, Category, and so on) associated which each licensed product type. Additionally, you can send the GetLicenseInfo action to an individual module to show the licensing information for that module.

As an alternative to running actions, you can use the License tab in the Status section of IDOL Admin to view information about the server license.

Revoke a License from a Specific Module

When you run out of available license seats, you can revoke a license from a specific module.

For a module that still exists and is responsive, you can revoke the license from the machine on which the module is installed. Stop the service and run the following command at the command line:

ExecutableName.exe -revokelicense

For a module that does not exist, or is not responsive, you can use the AdminRevoke action on License Server to remove the license. Use the LicenseInfo action to find details of the license that you want to remove, and then run the following action:

AdminRevokeLicense&ClientProductType=PRODUCTTYPE&ClientIP=HOST&ClientServicePort=PORT

where,

PRODUCTTYPE is the type of product that you want to revoke the license from.
HOST  is the IP address or host name of the machine where the module is or was installed.
PORT is the port that module uses.

As an alternative to running actions, you can also view details of licensed seats, manage licensed components, and revoke licenses on the Licenses page in the Control section of IDOL Admin.

License Server Stops Working or Cannot be Contacted

Your License Server must be operating to allow modules to continue working. However, modules have a grace period (typically 24 hours) during which they continue to operate without contacting License Server. Use this period to make sure that License Server is operating again and can be contacted.

Change the Machine to Run a Specific Component On

Licenses are typically restricted to a specific MAC address and port, so you cannot simple copy and restart a licensed component. For non-licensing components, you must revoke the license and relicense the component on the new machine. For one-off changes to License Server itself, contact Micro Focus Big Data Customer Support to obtain a new license.

For clustered deployments, contact Micro Focus Big Data Customer Support to discuss obtaining a clustered license that slightly relaxes the MAC address restriction.
