Microsoft SNA Server Connection (AS/400)

You can communicate with an IBM AS/400 via a Microsoft SNA Server. To set the Microsoft SNA Server options, you will need to specify LU Alias options and Sign-On options. Contact your system administrator for specific LU resources.

Use the Microsoft SNA Server General Page dialog box to define general settings for a Microsoft SNA Server connection. You will need to select the appropriate host options and PC options.

System Requirements

A connection to the Microsoft SNA Server requires:

  • Microsoft SNA Client software running on each client workstation

  • TCP/IP transport protocol, installed on the SNA Server and on the client workstations

Options

Description

Host Options

Specifies which remote LU you will be using to make a connection. Select one of the options and provide the appropriate information as required.

Use Default Remote LU Alias

If selected, this option will use the default Remote LU Alias as defined by the MS SNA Server. Extra! will make only one connection attempt using the default.

Specify Remote LU Alias

If selected, this option lets you define a specific Remote LU Alias. Contact your system administrator for a valid Remote LU Alias.

Remote LU Alias

Enter a valid Remote LU Alias.

PC Options

Specifies which LU you will be using to make your connection. Select one of the options and provide the appropriate information as required.

Use Default Local LU Alias

If selected, this option will use the default Local LU Alias as defined by the MS SNA Server.

Specify Local LU Alias

If selected, this option lets you define a specific Local LU Alias. Contact your system administrator for a valid Local LU Alias.

Local LU Alias

Sets the name to use as the Local LU Alias. Contact your system administrator for a valid Local LU Alias.

To configure a Microsoft SNA Server connection (AS/400)

  1. Start a new AS/400 session, and select Microsoft SNA Server as your connection type.

  2. In the General page, select Use Default Remote LU Alias or enter a specific name into the Remote LU Alias field. Contact your system administrator for a valid LU Alias.

  3. Select Use Default Local LU Alias or enter a specific name into the Local LU Alias field. Contact your system administrator for a valid Local LU Alias.

  4. (Optional) Choose the Advanced page if you wish to set additional host options and sign-on options.

  5. (Optional) Choose the Backup page to configure a back-up host connection. This connection will be used if the primary host cannot be found.

  6. (Optional) If you are creating a printer session, choose the Printer page set Host-specific printer control settings.
