5.2 Using Database Editor

To create a path using the Database Editor

  1. From the Connection Type list box, click the path template for the type of path you want to create.

  2. If the bottom portion of the application window displays more than one tab, click the Paths tab.

  3. Click on the toolbar, or click Add Record from the Record menu.

  4. Type the desired name for the path in the Paths and Their Descriptions text box (up to 15 characters), or use the default name.

  5. Complete the bottom portion of the application window.

    The items that appear here vary, depending on which path template is selected as the Connection Type. If the application window displays a Configure Path or Configure Channel button, be sure to click these buttons to configure the path.

    For information about any item on the application window, press F1 when the cursor is in the field that you want information about, or when the desired item is highlighted.

  6. When you have finished, click on the toolbar, or click Save Record from the Record menu.

To modify a path using the Database Editor

  1. From the Connection Type list box, click the path template of the path that you want to modify.

  2. If the bottom portion of the application window displays more than one tab, click the Paths tab.

  3. Select the path to modify.

  4. Make the desired changes in the bottom portion of the application window.

    The items that appear here vary, depending on which path template is selected as the Connection Type. If the application window displays a Configure Path or Configure Channel button, be sure to click these buttons to configure the path.

    For information about any item on any subsequent dialog box, click in the upper right corner of the dialog box and then click the desired item.

  5. When you have finished, click on the toolbar, or click Save Record from the Record menu.

To select a path in the Database Editor

  1. From the Connection Type list box, click the path template of the path that you want to select.

  2. If the bottom portion of the application window displays more than one tab, click the Paths tab.

  3. Use any of these procedures:

    • From the Paths and Their Descriptions list box, click the name of the path.

    • To select the first path in the list box, click on the toolbar, or click First Record from the Record menu.

    • To select the preceding path in the list box, click on the toolbar, or click Previous Record from the Record menu.

    • To select the next path in the list box, click on the toolbar, or click Next Record from the Record menu.

    • To select the last path in the list box, click on the toolbar, or click Last Record from the Record menu.

To enable or disable tracing a path

  1. From the Connection Type list box in the Database Editor, click the path template of the path for which you want to enable or disable tracing.

  2. Select the path to modify.

  3. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Enable tracing for the path

    Select Traced.

    Disable tracing for the path

    Clear Traced.

    When you trace a session, you can specify whether to trace all paths or only paths that have tracing enabled.

  4. Click on the toolbar, or click Save Record from the Record menu.

To enable or disable system use of a path

  1. From the Connection Type list box in the Database Editor, click the path template of the path for which you want to enable or disable system use.

  2. Select the path to modify.

  3. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Mark the path for internal use by other transports

    Select System.

    Make the path available for use with applications

    Clear System.

    System paths do not appear in the Select InfoConnect Path dialog box that appears when you open a session that is not associated with a particular path. However, system paths do appear in the Paths and Their Descriptions list box in the InfoConnect Database Editor.

  4. Click on the toolbar, or click Save Record from the Record menu.

To delete a path using the Database Editor

  1. From the Connection Type list box, click the path template of the path that you want to delete.

  2. If the bottom portion of the application window displays more than one tab, click the Paths tab.

  3. Select the path to delete.

  4. Click on the toolbar, or click Delete Record from the Record menu.

To cancel changes

  1. Click on the toolbar.

  2. From the Record menu, click Refresh Record.

  3. Press ESC.
