5.4.1 How To Manage Users and Groups

To create a group

  1. Click the InfoConnect database (the icon at the top of the tree) in which you want to create the group.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Click on the toolbar.

    • From the Group menu, click Add Group.

  3. On the Add New Group dialog box, type the name to use for the group.

NOTE:The user password can be assigned to only one user. If you assigned the user password to another user previously, it will no longer be assigned to that person if you assign it to the user you are now adding. However, anyone who knows both the user name and password can log in as a user.

Once you have added a user to a group, you can click that user and create paths for that user.

To expand or collapse a group

  • Double-click the group that you want to expand or collapse.

If the group is expanded (if it displays a list of users beneath it), it collapses to show only the group but no users. If the group is collapsed (if no users are displayed beneath it), it expands to show all the users in that group.

To move a user

  1. Add the user to the group where you want the user to appear.

Be sure to use the same name for the user that appears in the group you're moving the user from. Otherwise, the user's paths will not move to the new group. Click the name of the user in the new group to make sure that the paths appear.

  2. Delete the user from the original group.

To rename a user

  1. Click the user whom you want to rename.

  2. From the User menu, click Modify User.

  3. Type the new name for the user.

If you rename a user on the Database Editor tree, the user must log on to Windows or the network using that name in order to access the paths associated with that name.

To delete a user

  1. Click the user that you want to delete.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Press Delete.

    • From the User menu, click Delete User.

If the user appears in other groups on the tree, the selected user icon is deleted, but the user's paths are not. However, if the user does not appear in any other groups, both the user icon and all paths associated with that user are deleted from the database.

To rename a group

  1. Click the group that you want to rename.

  2. From the Group menu, click Modify Group.

  3. Type the new name for the group.
