ATM NetBIOS EIL Path Options

Using this dialog box, you can specify advanced NetBIOS options, such as the LAN adapter card to use and the amount of time that a session using this path should take to send or receive a block of data.

Comm Server Name

Type the name of the server that you want to use (up to 16 characters). This name cannot contain spaces or begin with an asterisk (*), and it must match the name specified in the communication server software. If you are not sure what name to use, contact your network administrator.

Use Permanent Adapter Name

Do one of the following:

  • Select this option if your network interface card has a MAC address and you want to use this address .

  • Clear this option if your network interface card does not have a MAC address, or you do not want to use this address .

Type a unique address for your PC in the Local Name text box.

NOTE: If you select this option, your PC might connect to the gateway more quickly.

Local Name

If you cleared Use Permanent Adapter Name, type an address for your PC that is unique within the LAN (up to 16 characters). This name cannot contain spaces or begin with an asterisk (*).

NOTE:A Local Name might already be established on your PC via your NetBIOS protocol software. You cannot use that name in this text box. If you are not sure what value to type, contact your network administrator.

LANA Number

Type the number that indicates which LAN adapter card to use for the path. (With NetBIOS, you can have one or two cards in your PC.)

  • Type 0 to use the primary (or only) card in the PC.

  • Type 1 to use the secondary card.

Receive

Type the number of 1/2 seconds that a session using this path should take to receive a block of data. For example, if this should take one second, type 2 in this text box. If it takes longer than this amount of time to receive the data, the connection to the gateway will be lost.

It is recommended you type zero (0). This disables the timeout and ensures that the connection to the gateway will not be lost due to slow data transmission.

If you do type a time period, it is recommended that you test the stability of a session using the path. You might need to adjust the period to avoid having the session close unexpectedly.

Transmit

Type the number of 1/2 seconds that a session using this path should take to send a block of data. For example, if this should take one second, type 2 in this text box. If it takes longer than this amount of time to send the data, the connection to the gateway will be lost.
