Printing Graphics

You can print graphic images from a bitmap of the screen or from the saved display list. To allow printing, one or both of the Backing Store methods, Bitmap or Display List must be selected in the Settings - Display Graphics page. Although the display list method can provide better results, many printers do not support this method. Selecting the bitmap method will always allow you to print.

Printing from the Display List

When you select display list printing, Windows graphics drawing commands are sent from the display list to the printer driver. This method of printing graphics usually produces a higher resolution than the bitmap method. However, text and graphics might not be scaled exactly the same, causing some misalignment between text and graphics on the full-page output. Windows expects that both video drivers and printer drivers support graphics drawing commands. Unfortunately, many printer drivers (including most PostScript drivers) do not fully support them. If display list printing does not work for your printer, try the bitmap method.

To select display list printing

  1. In a VT 340 session, from the Options menu, choose Settings.

  2. Under Categories, choose Display.

  3. In the Display Graphics page under Backing Store, select Display List.

  4. Choose the Printer tab.

  5. In the Display Printer page under Graphics Printing, clear the Use Bitmap option.

NOTE:Graphics printing options on the Display Printer page are available only for VT 340 sessions.

Printing from a Bitmap

Most printer drivers support bitmap printing. The screen image resolution limits the printed image's resolution. Text and graphics are scaled the same ratio to fill the output page, maintaining the alignment of text and graphics.

To select bitmap printing

  1. In a VT 340 session, from the Options menu, choose Settings.

  2. Under Categories, choose Display.

  3. In the Display Graphics page under Backing Store, select either (or both) of the options.

  4. If you selected Display List in the preceding step, choose the Printer tab.

  5. In the Display Printer page under Graphics Printing, select the Use Bitmap option.

NOTE:Graphics printing options on the Display Printer page are available only for VT 340 sessions.

To print graphics with a keypress

  • Press SHIFT+F2.

By default, headers and footers are also printed. To change your headers and footers or to disable header and footer printing, from the File menu, choose Print Screen. In the Print Screen dialog box, choose Print Settings. In the Print Settings dialog box, edit or clear the Header Text and Footer Text fields.

NOTE:For the image to be saved and ready for printing, the Backing Store method must be selected before you display the images you want to print (Settings - Display Graphics page).

Graphics printing options on the Printer page are available only for VT 340 sessions.
