9.6.1 Response Time Monitor (.RTM)

The InfoConnect Response Time Monitor Utility displays information about communication between one or more PCs running InfoConnect Accessory Manager and a host. Specifically, it displays information about transmissions from the PC and responses from the host, calculating both the size of the buffers being sent between the two and the amount of time between each transmission or response. You can use this information to identify problems with either your network performance or your host.

Using this utility, you can specify exactly what information you want to view. For example, you can filter out statistically insignificant data (such as excessively short or excessively long response times), and you can specify the period of time for which you want to view information (such as the last 7 days, the last 24 hours, or the last 60 minutes). You determine which sessions you want to view information about, and you can export the data into a file that you can manipulate using any spreadsheet application that can open comma-separated variable (.CSV) files (such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access).

Data Displayed by the Utility

The InfoConnect Response Time Monitor Utility application window displays the following data:

  • The filter currently being used

  • The number of sessions for which data appears in the application window

  • The following information about the displayed data:

    Column

    Description

    Session

The internal number that the utility uses to identify the session.

    Name

The name of the response time monitor (.RTM) file being viewed.

    Wkstn ID

The workstation ID as specified from the Session Preferences dialog box (such as the MAC address of the PC).

    Session ID

The session ID as specified from the Session Preferences dialog box.

    # Xmit

The total number of transmissions that have occurred during the period being monitored.

    Xmit Size

The average number of bytes per transmission that the PC has sent to the host during the period being monitored.

    # Resp

The total number of valid responses that have been sent by the host during the period being monitored.

    Resp Size

The average number of bytes per buffer that the host has sent to the PC during the period being monitored.

    Avg Time

The average number of seconds between each transmission from the PC and response from the host, or between multiple responses from the host.

    Min Time

The minimum number of seconds between a transmission from the PC and a response from the host, or between multiple responses from the host (the fastest response time).

    Max Time

The maximum number of seconds between a transmission from the PC and a response from the host, or between multiple responses from the host (the slowest response time).

    Xmit No Resp

The number of times when data was transmitted from the PC without a response from the host (for example, because the host or network went down).

    Unsol Resp

The number of responses received from the host prior to any transmission from the PC (for example, when the session connects to the host and the host displays the login screen).

This utility displays this information for each session being monitored and also provides a total for all the sessions being monitored (either the sum of the data, such as the total number of transmissions, or the average of the data, such as the combined average size of transmissions).
